Great Yorkshire Show - Limousins win Junior Interbreed Team.
The summer show circuit moved on to Harrogate and the Great Yorkshire Show with Limousin judging commencing on Tuesday 14th July. Competition in the Limousin lines was once again strong with many of the champion and placed animals from the Royal Show, held the week before, competing against entries from local breeders and beyond
Millington Davina, a sixteen-month-old maiden heifer from Millington Grange Estate, Cold Skin Farm, East Yorkshire, arrived at the Great Yorkshire hot on the heels of her Supreme Championship victory at the Royal Show the previous week. Once again she did not disappoint and scooped a host of titles including the Overall Supreme Reserve, Champion Female, Junior Champion and Best Exhibitor Bred titles to add to her Senior and Junior Interbreed honours. Davina is by the French AI sire, Mas Du Clos, who was also the sire of the 10,000gns Millington Choice, the Limousin Red Ladies Derby Champion in December 2008 at Carlisle. She is out of the well-bred Brockhurst Option who is by Ronick Matador and out of the noted Ronick McAinsi. Brockhurst Option was bought 8 years ago at an on-farm sale from the Buckinghamshire based herd of WJ & M Mash.
Again, as at the Royal, Millington Davina went head to head in the classes with Wilodge Diamante from Christine Williams. These two fine heifers were hard to separate and it resulted in Wilodge Diamante following Davina all the way through to the Overall Female Reserve and Junior Female Reserve titles. The two heifers had placed first and second in a class of eleven which was arguably the day’s strongest class. Wilodge Diamante is a May 2008 born heifer by the 42,000gns sire, Wilodge Vantastic, and is out of Wilodge Amethyst who shares maternal blood lines with the 50,000gns Wilodge Cerberus. Earlier this year Wilodge Diamante won the Pedigree and Continental Championships at this year’s Beef Expo held at Malvern in May.
The Limousin breed was again very much to the fore right through the interbreeds with a championship success in the Junior Interbreed Team accompanied by Reserve Supremes in the Individual, Team of Four, Junior Individual, and Blythswood Pairs Interbreeds respectively. A Limousin sired animal also stood Overall reserve in the Commercial Beef section.
Comprising the winning Junior Interbreed team was Burndale Cyclone from Mr SM Priestley; Millington Davina & Millington Dazzling from Millington Grange Estate; and Wilodge Diamante from DA Williams. The Reserve Team of Four featured Greenhill Viper, Millington Vegan and Millington Davina and Wilodge Diamante. Millington Davina secured the Reserve Junior Interbreed whilst Greenhill Viper and Newstart Cinderella took the Overall Reserve in the Blythswood Pairs.
